...of the myriad other things that goverment should and does do, most of which don't involve explosions or get great TV ratings.

GOP voters do seem to be more captivated, statistically, by shiny objects that excite or comfort them. The necessary grind by which the work of sustaining families and infrastructure seems to piss them off, rugged individualists that they are.
