That's what the accumulated news is like.

I have a sense of what is going on... and another contradictory sense of what's going on... reporters will say one thing, then a contradictory thing a minute later, with no apparent sense that the two can't add up.

We had a guy who was captured alive while being killed at the scene, but later died at the hospital.

Another guy was stripped and arrested... but is currently holed up in a house somewhere shooting at the police.

I deleted an OP summing up what WHDH-TV reported earlier because it was being contradicted so much by later reporting that I figgured it must have been wrong -- but now it seems to have been more reliable than much of what followed.

If F. Scott Fitzgerald was right that art is holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously then all of our creative powers are increasing tonight.

1. According to MSNBC:

Black hat was killed. White hat is at large. The naked man wasn't involved and has been released (per twitter)

2. Local TV reported one dead, one at large at 2:49 ET

And two hours later the national cables will gotten back to that (seemingly very sound) reporting, but only after trying every alternative.
