In his victory speech in Nevada Saturday night, Mitt Romney took his contention that the election is about an "entitlement society" favored by President Obama to a "oppurtunity society" favored by Republicans to its full extreme. Unlike Obama, Romney said, he won't buy off votes with government handouts.
From the delievered remarks, sent to reporters by the Romney campaign:

Isn't it ironic that in the early part of his campaign he used that Obama statement where he was talking about the McCain team & the economy......which really was taken out of context. And now, every time he screws up, he says he was taken out of context!!
haha....

Isnt it a hard argument to make if youre saying, like, OK, he inherited this recession, he took a bunch of steps to try to turn the economy around, and now, were seeing more jobs, but vote against him anyway? Isnt that a hard argument to make? Is that a stark enough contrast?
& Romney replied:
Have you got a better one, Laura?
I have never, ever heard a politician say 'have you got a better one?' Usually they have some idea about how to argue for or against an issue....they don't always make sense but that doesn't stop them from trying!
By asking if she had a better one tells me he's not so sure of his position!

(3,122 posts)I would ask any journalist, name one other time when a politician asked, "have you got a better idea?"
They never say that! Mainly because a politician is supposed to be confident & that statement is not (in any way) confident!

(116,464 posts)what Mitt considers a bribe: "new programs" that "promise the most benefits" to voters.
Wonder what he considers his tax cuts for the rich? Seems he doesn't plan on offering any new and beneficial programs for the rest of the voting public so he's right, he's the wrong man for the Presidency. In fact, to quote Mitt: "You have that President today."
Mitt just endorsed Obama 2012.

(3,122 posts)When he was Gov, MA was third from the bottom in jobs creation!! It seems to me that people would need some kind of job to create opportunities......
If he couldn't create jobs then, why should anyone believe he will do anything different now?
"so how's he going to create opportunities?"
..."bribes."
I'm enjoying this.

(20,872 posts)then taxed it. How is promising a tax cut not similar to your analogy Mitt?
Getting the government service I pay for with my taxes isn't bribe, it's promising to make the government work like it is suppose to. What an *.
"Remember when Bush promised everyone 300 $"
That was the great media "look-over-there" campaign. The ads telling people all the great things they could buy with this "windfall."
Of course, the windfall was the more than $100,000 for the rich.
