I'm starting to think maybe the Sandy Hook families WERE the target.

Besides the timing of the blasts and the sheer coincidence of their presence nearby, I have nothing substantial to back this up. I might be totally wrong, and in fact, I kind of hope I am.

But I will say, though, that in certain parts of the Internet--there is a skepticism, a suspicion, an animosity, and a pure hatred for these poor people that I didn't believe possible until I saw it with my own eyes. And believe it or not, it's only going to get worse.

"Somebody's going through an awful lot of trouble to make us look bad." That was a comment I read today. Sandy Hook Truthers are truly some of the scariest Americans I know of.

which, of course, would fall right into what you're saying.

I just feel that if it were foreign terrorism, such as Al Qaeda, there would be a suicide bomber, or bombers, involved and the body count would be higher because the suicide bomber would be the one who chose when the bomb would go off. I know that I've heard that for terrorists it's now all about the body count.

I think it's domestic terrorists.

Of course I could be wrong since I obviously don't know all the facts, but that's my gut reaction.

they would have claimed responsibility by now. They like their terror to be recognized and branded.

It was my understanding that they had left before the bomb went off? It would appear whoever did this could have done it whenever they wanted to.

If I remember, she was marginalized for awhile on the major networks because she said the 9/11 widows were glad their husbands died so they could get on TV. If that's a mainstream thinker for the knuckledraggers, you just never know.

What was the motivation for this? I believe there was a Newtown banner near where the bomb went off and it could have been the hateful act of a 2nd amendment extremist against the Newtown families, as you say. But it also occurred on tax day and Patriot's day (anti-tax small government Tea Party nut) and also on Israel's Independence day (Jihadist nut).

Since no one has stepped forward or even issued an untraceable statement of victory such as "you'll never take my gun", "don't tread on me", or "Allah be praised", I'm leaning towards thinking it's a lone nut with some private grudge against the city or the marathon.

Seriously? Someone's idea of the most efficient way to target people who live in Connecticut is to put bombs in Massachusetts?
Like there are no races or other gatherings in Connecticut?
First and most likely explanation for the choice of the Boston marathon was maximum body count, plain and simple. It seems rather improbable that they were targeting anything more specific than a big crowd of people in america.

14. Maybe

but the attack was then more symbolic than systematic in their targeting of Sandy Hook victim families.

My hunch makes me think this is domestic RW. Al Qaeda's attacks seem more sophisticated and their body counts are usually much higher. But then again pressure cooker bombs have been used in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

It's still too early to tell and I'll admit I'm contributing nothing but mindless chattering speculation. I'd rather wait to hear what the FBI, Boston PD, and any related law enforcement agencies have to say as they go about investigating this horrific crime. I remember OKC and the immediate false reports of Arabs being involved. And then there was the Atlanta Olympic bombings and Richard Jewel was the bomber, or so people figured.

they would be there?

What a horrible tragedy regardless of who did it. So much violence, and so senseless. It will, like all the other awful tragedies, fade from the news, we won't hear much about the victims after a while, like the Columbine victims, the OK bombing victims, there are so many now, but they cannot ever get over the results of these senseless, cruel acts of violence.

nothing about how long it would take to make a bomb, but seems to me it would take time to plan something like that. Otoh, as I said, I don't know.
