Horse DNA in 5% of EU tested beef products

Horse DNA has been found in up to 5% of beef products randomly tested across the EU, according to preliminary results from the European Commission.

The three-month programme of checks was agreed by the 27 EU member states in February after horsemeat had been found in a batch of Findus frozen lasagne.

The report said French beef had highest levels of horsemeat, followed by Greek.

However, directly comparing the countries is misleading because they used different testing methods.
