Gun control bill in peril (more like dead)

The tough gun-control bill that President Barack Obama wants now has little, if any, chance of passing this Congress – it’s struggling in the Senate and facing outright rejection in the House.

Vice President Joe Biden worked the phones Monday to try to salvage a bipartisan bill in the Senate but has come up short. Personal appeals from parents of Newtown victims and former Rep. Gabby Giffords haven’t worked either.

And even if Senate negotiators get to 60 votes, the House is certain to rewrite the bill – or discard it altogether.

A defeat would mean that in just five months after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, the best chance for new gun controls in 20 years is slipping away.

Is anyone surprised by this? sickening.

Are they so money grubbing that they sell their soul? Anything for money or to be reelected?

My faith in humanity is gone and God help this country.

They wouldn't get 90% in support of anything. Not even support for Barrack Obama will hit 90% so in effect I seriously question an issue like more gun control will get 90% support in this country.

I heard somewhere that support fro gun control is greater than the support for Baseball and apple pie. Just think about it

Universal background checks hit something like 90%, which is basically every American who is not in the NRA (including the vast majority of gun owners).

Congress can't even pass the same Assault-Weapon Ban that easily passed Congress back in 1994.

That tells you all you need to know about the prospects of the gun control movement in this country...

Life = expendable

Gun Rights = Must not be touched

It's despicable that life means so little to some people, because that's what it comes down to. The right to bear arms is more important than life itself.

"They, whoever they may be, win not only by inflicting pain, suffering and fear, but due to the reaction of our governments and the steps they deem "necessary" to keep us safe.

There is no way to keep us completely safe. There is no way to entirely prevent something like the event that occurred yesterday and the more Government strains to do so, the more repressive it becomes."

This underscores the importance of taking back the House, and building our majority in the Senate.

It happens on issue after issue. The GOP manages to water down and block everything. They stick together as a group, empowered by corporate money, and also redistricting and the fact that the Senate heavily over-represents conservative rural states.

And the result is that the government is far to the right of the people. We can't even get a bill through that 90% of Americans support.

It happened with Wall Street reform. It's happening with Social Security as we speak. Looks like it's happening with gun control. And then there are things like global warming, which don't even get talked about.
