Westboro Baptist Church threatens to picket funerals of those slain at the Boston Marathon

Today has been a day that has tried the soul of a city.

In the hours since the two explosions rocked the streets of Boston, messages of love and support have saturated the internet — but these inspiring and compassionate posts were not universal.

In fact, the commentary streaming across the Twitter feed of the Westboro Baptist Church was both hostile and hateful.

The Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, Kansas, is a small, virulently homophobic, anti-Semitic hate group that regularly stages protests or pickets institutions and individuals they think support homosexuality or otherwise subvert what they believe is God’s law.

WBC even protested the funerals of children who were slain in the horrific Newtown shootings this past December.

Do they really think they'll convince anyone that homosexuality is wrong by doing this? I mean what's their point, what's their game plan? Why are they doing stuff like this?

Truth is the group in the whole are sick. They are addicted to the spotlight. They are so addicted they will even make sure they put their kids in as props, and from some video I have seen, to purposely get them hurt for the attention it brings. There is no other way to interpret taking children into an area that is violently upset. They can see it is not safe and that is where they want to place as many kids as possible.

Thanks to many of the members working for the state and being lawyers, that find a way to make it legal. They bend and pervert the law.

No child deserves to be raised in such an environment. And they even parade out their little children to hold signs like "God Hates Fags". Yes, the sickos from Westboro are free to rear their children in isolation, fear and hatred, whilst many loving, gay couples in this nation can't even adopt.

9. They threatened a funeral in the small town where I live.

They were told that they would NOT be protected in that the entire police department would be riding in the funeral procession. This was a no show for Westboro and have heard this tactic keeps them away.

Their congregation pays expenses (travel, etc.) for their protests. Then they file 1st Amendment lawsuit after lawsuit and collect 6 digit attorney's fees.
