Oregon 9-year-old killed by security guard practicing holstering weapon

Authorities in Oregon are considering whether to charge an off-duty security guard who accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter while practicing drawing his weapon.

Oregon City police spokesperson Lt. Jim Band said that 32-year-old Joseph Wade Wolters was at home on Sunday prepping for his new job as an armed security guard by holstering and unholstering a loaded weapon. Fourth grader Shayla May Shonneker was about 50 yards away when the gun discharged, sending a bullet through a wall and striking the girl in the face while she was playing outside.

armed guards at schools is a good idea. This is probably the type they'd hire.

When Mr security gaurd decided he was responsible enough to carry a loaded gun he also agreed to accept the moral responsibility for the final detination of any bullet that leaves the gun while in his possession. A responsible gun owner, by definition, would never allow this scenario to happen. He either lied about his abilities with a gun to get the job, or the security company was negligent in hiring an irresponsible person for a position involving the responsible use of a gun in the persuit of "security".
Shouldn't adult Americans be responsible for the end location of every bullet they fire from thier gun? A 9 year old child died because he wouldn't admit to being an irresponsible gun user and owner.
Mr "security" ought to spend the better part of the rest of his life in prison- as should all irresponsible gun owners that "accidently" shoot family and friends, as opposed to admitting to being an irresponsible gun owner.
