I'm pissed as hell. I want my party back. I demand my party lives up to its values. I'm gonna work like hell to elect as many Democrats of my particular, pro-people, pro-labor, pro-family, pro-equality stripe and work like hell to help turn out as many voters in any swing district my local party wants me to phone call to. I'm pissed that our leaders in Washington aren't living up to Democratic values.
But I'll be Goddamned if I'm gonna let the sloppy discipline of our elected, temporary leaders run me out of my party or deprive me of saying proudly I'm a liberal Democrat. I will always be a Democrat. I will not leave the party and there's too damn many of us who want a government that does right by its citizens to let the party leave us.
I am a Democrat.

(53,032 posts)I thought this was supposed to be a Democratic site. I did the third party thing, and that helped elect George W Bush. I learned my lesson. Never again.

(54,005 posts)This was just my little rant against this self defeating "I'm leaving the party" chatter. I'm glad to see a few people agree.

(6,234 posts)I am ashamed to have worked to elect the man championing the destruction of Social Security *and quite a few other abhorent policies). I have no excuse -- after his insurance mandate I should have known better -- but I wanted to believe that this time it would be different.
I won't make that mistake again. I will work and vote for proven liberals only. If they happen to be Democrats great, if not they will have to win or lose without my support.

(54,005 posts)It's accountability. If this president and Congress are drifting off the farm, we're the ones who have to corral them back. I thank all the activists who are doing just that.

(10,000 posts)That wasn't some GOP union buster. That was Harry Truman. Sometimes members of your own party do things that suck for other members of your party.

(22,057 posts)Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Obama-they all have many good and a few bad points. I didn't back a single one when they began their respective races.
In 1972 , I wanted Ed Muskie
In 1976, I wanted Mo Udall,
in '84 Gary Hart,
in '88, Mario Cuomo,
in '92 Joe Biden,
in 2000 Ed Bradley,
in 2004 Wes Clark
and in 2008 John Edwards.
I don't often get my personal selection in the party but that's life. I'm a Democrat through and through and I likewise will not let anyone drive me out of my party. Its way to late for that nonsense at this stage of my life. I am who I am and I'm damn proud of it!

(54,005 posts)I first voted for Mondale in 84, though I'd supported Hart in the primaries.
I supported Biden in 88, Brown in 92, Clark in 04, and Biden in 08. I'm like a curse. But in the end, it always comes down to us or them. And us always needs my vote.

(22,057 posts)At least on a national level. Living in Mississippi my votes for governor/senator etc are often jokes.
However my member of the House of Representatives can kick some serious ass from time to time!
