(48,181 posts)So, unless they subsequently shut down data transfer I'm guessing they left that part operational. It isn't like they turned the cell towers off.

(10,572 posts)I know some texting apps use wifi - so it would not matter if cell phone lines were up or down. (Especially true if you use an iPhone and your text messages are blue - that means it was sent via apples servers, if its green its an actual text)

(10,572 posts)It was that way in San Diego when we had the power outage as well. The cell phone towers got locked but we could text (green) for an hour or so and then they locked up too. Seems you could set one off with a text...
