There was a lot of rumors on 9/11 too. Remember all the reported car bombs? Doesn't mean there really are devices covering the city.

on 9/11. Give everything the 72 hour smell test, rumors are going to be flying until then.

7. Well, given that the police are reporting finding them, I'm not sure how it's speculative.

Plus, one of them exploded in front of the JFK library... Explosions usually (but not always) involve bombs.

6. "suspected devices" could wind up to be empty bags and backpacks of books

None of these reports have said the other items found were in fact bombs except for one (third bomb). Certainly any suspicious packages are being dealt with but quickly concluding they are all bombs is not prudent
