North Korea Says Tokyo Is Target No. 1

Don't look now, but the birthday of Kim Jong-un's grandfather, Kim Il-Sung, is right around the corner, on Monday, with absurd celebrations and marathons and magic horses all weekend. But nothing would do more poetic justice to North Korea's warped version of history and its "unacceptable" war-mongering rhetoric than to drown one of its oldest enemies in a sea of nuclear flames. Which absurdity will win out?

"North Korea warned Japan Friday that Tokyo would be the first target in the event of a war on the Korean Peninsula if it continues to maintain its hostile posture," reports South Korea's Yonhap News Agency this morning in America, by way of a report from the DPRK's state-run Korean Central News Agency. "Japan always remains a target of the DPRK's revolutionary armed forces. Once Japan makes even a slight provocation against the DPRK, the former will be hard hit before any others," the report adds.

That's pretty scary, especially since things had been calming down for a few days there — and especially considering the Pentagon can't even make up its mind about what, exactly, Pyongyang's nuclear capabilities look like right now. And there are red-tipped missiles at flower shows in Pyongyang. But there's sort of a loophole in today's news. Notice how the warning reads: "if it" — as in Japan — "continues to maintain its hostile posture." What the North Korean propaganda machine appears to be referring to is Tuesday's action out of Japan, when it set up a slew of interceptor missiles in Tokyo as a precaution against North Korea's declarations of war. And there have been plenty of precautionary measures from around the globe of late after what Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday called "unacceptable" rhetoric from the all too excitable Kim dynasty.

Remember that there was some reconciliation toward the South with family visits, jointly run factory, etc. Also, some North Koreans do have radios that can pick up South Korean broadcasts which can give them a much different view of the outside world.

The leaders are a step above, semi- or more-than-semi-divine, so they're obviously exempt.

Remember, this is a country that imprisons people for insufficiently ostentatious mourning when one of the leaders keels over. They script and regulate public events pretty rigorously.

especially when it comes to Japan. They've yanked Japan's chain quite a few times in the past, like last December when their missile flew over Okinawa.

I know you're used to that jerk's bluster. I'm sorry he's gotten more threatening directly to Japan. I don't recall this being the case before. You're so close that you'd be involved if anything were to happen.

My son lives in Seoul. I remember you said you have relatives in the Republic of Korea, too. Nobody there is paying any attention to Kim Jong Un. I guess I don't blame them. After all, what can they do, anyway? Occasionally a missile will come their way but most of the time it's all talk. For decades now.

I'm proud that the U.S. will stand by both Japan and South Korea if Kim proves to be irrational. I hope and pray it will never be necessary because of the losses that will have already occurred before we step in to help.

He is in a very high position, running everything (with his advisor's. ) Consider the fact, he once or twice snuck out of the country to go attend a Madonna Concert. No one went with him, and he was alone. He was spotted by the press, but at the time, however no one was focused on him, as his father was running the nation.

He became chums with Dennis Rodman, and liked talking about basketball. He married a woman who was a famous singer in North Korea, someone who had been his sweetheart for quite some time. It was later as his father became older, that he was put into training on how to be the next leader.

North Korea is a country that spends most its money on weapons and putting on elaborate shows for dignitaries who show up to visit the country. Dignitaries are given the grand tour, but its just for show. The rest of people not involved with the military are dirt poor. Some living in rambled shacks and ride bicycles. In many places there is not even electricity. You can see satellite photos of how dark North Korea is to South Korea.

The man probably has a giant ego, having that much power, but considering himself indestructible is not one of his traits. He knows he is not SUPERMAN.

Do we then retaliate by laying waste to N Korea in a nuclear holocaust?
Or does China or Russia do the retaliation on their young upstart madman.?
