Margaret Thatcher's funeral: Family veto Argentine officials at service
Baroness Thatchers family have vetoed representatives of the Argentine government attending her funeral next week.
Whitehall officials proposed the presence of Argentine officials at a meeting of the committee which is organising the funeral, code-named Operation True Blue.
The Telegraph understands that Lady Thatchers children, Sir Mark and Carol, believe that such protocol would be inappropriate.
Sir Mark, who returned to Britain from Barbados on Tuesday, will attend a meeting of the Operation True Blue committee tomorrow to represent his mothers interests.
The committee, which is meeting on a daily basis, is planning to make the liberation of the Falkland Islands a central part of the ceremonial funeral on Wednesday.

(6,960 posts)I disliked Thatcher intensely.
However, the Argentine generals started an unnecessary war over the Falklands.
Thatcher was right to clobber Argentina in that war.
And now Pres. Kirchner is ramping up the rhetoric again over the Falklands.
Argentina has no claim to those islands other than proximity.
The Falklanders voted just recently to stay a part of the commonwealth (or some such relationship with the UK).
I wouldn't want them at my funeral either.

(114,904 posts)If they wanted a family funeral they should have had one. Whitehall wanted the Argentine delegation at the funeral and it is exceeding ungracious of her children to do this and embarrassing for the gov't.
