"It was explained much more eloquently than I will be able that the obligation of each and every lawmaker is to uphold the constitution.
Therefore if an issue is being brought up before the legislative body which is unconstitutional on it's face, the legislators have an obligation to NOT allow this legislation ANY possiblilty to move forward in the institution it is being brought to.
Fillibuster is EXACTLY what should happen!
If we... (yes I use this with the intended inflammmatory impact it will bring) wished to bring black slavery back in front of the Senate for a vote, should that be allowed?
Of course not...It is unconstitutional as all men under the constitution have a right to life, "LIBERTY," and the pursuit of happiness....It would NOT be brought up for a vote."
Yes, of course.
I, for one, would love to see who would sponsor a bill to bring back slavery. I'd be even more curious to see who would actually vote for it.
You go ahead and do that, Republicans.
Anyone got any bets on which current sitting Senator would vote to bring back slavery? With Strum Thurmond being dead and all.....
