Brazilian Rats On Steroids Are The Hot New Puppy
Apparently the latest craze in Argentina is passing off ferrets which they call Brazilian rats as toy poodles. The idea is when the ferret is born they inject it with steroids to beef it up and then crimp its fur like Tiffany so it looks just like a toy poodle puppy. People in Argentina have been buying the Rat Dogs thinking they are getting a great deal on a pedigree breed puppy only to be told later by their vet that they have been snuggling the belly of a rodent.
FICTION IS DEAD. STARE INTO THE DEADLIGHTS OF THE REAL.

(115,686 posts)1. Weird story. But to be technical, ferrets aren't rodents.
They're weasels. And they can make good pets, though they are sometimes kind of nippy and hyperactive.

Aside from both being laurasiatheres (look it up) they've got pretty much nothing in common.
If the story is true (and I really, really doubt it is) then al lI can say is, those poor weasels.

Ferrets have a very distinct odor.

...up with steroids, what the fuck else are they doing?
I cannot fathom it.

(52,209 posts)5. i've known plenty of people who knowningly had ferrets as pets.
of course the fraud aspect in this story is problematic, but apparently ferrets can be good pets.

I think they're a bit more work than cats or dogs, but they're rewarding pets to have. I usually describe them as kittens who never grow up into cats because they tend to be playful and a little crazy all their lives.
