Works for me. Let the whole thing be that way.

What I need to know I can find online and I don't need any windbag pundits to tell me what to think.

(4,854 posts)I'm not sure I care about anything on the TeeVee but it would be nice to get the science and history type channels and not have to pay more to subsidize the sports channels.
I don't know what the basic fee would be just to deliver programming - any programming to me but this is one area I think ala carte would be beneficial.

The sooner they fall apart as a company, the better!

(9,527 posts)I'm not quite sure why though. I mean I don't have cable, but I get the local Fox affiliate because it's an over the air network. I don't get Fox News because it's a cable station. That isn't effected by the case in question.

(31,464 posts)There is another story in GD. They're not talking about requiring individuals to subscribe. They're trying to stop a company who is using over-the-air signals as its "product," selling the signal for $10/mo to people who don't want to spend $150 a month for cable.

(33,224 posts)Clearly they are not. They are in the propaganda business, and we all know it. They're not going to do anything that jeopardizes their REAL revenue model.

(1,289 posts)We are liable to see more over the air stations and networks headed this way too. Ad rates for OTA broadcasters are in the toilet and have been for about the last 3-4 years. It's getting to the point where "free" OTA tv is no longer a viable business model. It costs more to operate a lot of TV stations than ad revenue can bring in,no matter how many spots they run.
starroute
(12,977 posts)As far as I know, there's no way to make a broadcast signal that can be received by subscription only. But at one point, the article seems to be saying they will stop broadcasting entirely and become a premium cable and satellite channel. And at another, it seems to be saying their will charge their own local affiliates subscription fees for broadcasting their programs.
Does anybody have a clearer idea of what is really being proposed?
