soon if the members of Congress care or even regard the polls as meaningful.
We have been scammed by web sites offering public opinion questions and clicking away.
We think it means something but web sites are just counting clicks for marketing info.

Maybe McConnell realizes if he just keeps opposing background checks, Obama will eventually compromise them out of any gun control measure he offers.

(23,664 posts)It's pretty much how he responds to opposition.
He wouldn't defend Social Security, he won't defend background checks either.
In fact I think all this gun control bluster is a diversion to keep the press from talking about his SS sellout.

(47,953 posts)Because these issues aren't the number one issue that people vote on. Whereas there are large blocks who vote entirely based on if the pol wants to end abortion rights or keep gun rights.
Even those who are for background checks will vote against a pol if they can be convinced said pol wants to take away their guns. Real or imagined.
All one has to do is to look at the voting records of people these past 20 years or so. People consistently vote against their own interests and desires, so long as they can be convinced that one overarching interest is served.
