(04-08) 13:44 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- A man who runs a doughnut shop with his wife in San Francisco's Sunnydale neighborhood fought off an armed robber in a scuffle that left him and the attacker injured early Monday, police said.
The couple who run Happy Donut on Bayshore Boulevard at Sunnydale Avenue opened their doors at 3 a.m. as usual, and a man entered the shop soon after, said police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy. "They thought it was a customer," he said.
Instead, the man brandished a handgun and told one of the owners, a 59-year-old woman, to hand over money.
Her husband, 61, heard the commotion from the back of the shop, "comes out front and sees the suspect with a firearm in hand to his wife's head," Shyy said.
The husband grabbed a knife, fought with the robber and was shot in the arm, Shyy said. The assailant was stabbed and ran west on Sunnydale, police said. He remains at large.

A gun does not make you Superman.
You can be taken down.

(93 posts)With a knife you can inflict non-lethal, but painful, wounds to disable an assailant. You don't have to kill them. With a gun it's 50/50 if you'll kill them. I'll take the knife.
