Opposing immigration reform out of concern for the "working class and artists"?
Found this letter to the editor in the newspaper to be printed Monday:
As the daughter of immigrants from Iran and Mexico, and a first-generation American, I am outraged at the lack of concern for the American born who don't want to see jobs taken away by illegal immigrants. Even though my mother was an immigrant from Mexico and worked in a hotel that she loved and was paid some $200 a day, including tips, 40 years ago, things are not the same anymore with housing, jobs and tips.
I need a job and can't pay the outrageous rent and do not support the immigration bill, as it hurts the American people. Years ago there was affordable housing and decent paying jobs and today there are neither for the working class and artists.
I guess the right wing disinfo industry even gets immigrants fighting against each other and blaming each other for the economy, while distracting from:
- The
deindustrialization of America;
-
The billion-dollar union-busting industry;
- Corporations that choose to hire unauthorized immigrants and pay them off the books but only get a slap on the wrist; for example Wal-Mart in 2005
paid an $11 million settlement to the fed gov over allegations the company hired immigrants who lacked eligibility to work in the US
