"I mortgaged the house and bought 2 commercial freezers and 4 large homeowner freezers, maxed out the credit cards to fill them with four years of food, and wrapped the electrical cords in aluminum foil, so Im pretty much covered for whatever North Korea can throw at us."

(53,661 posts)the evil banking system would go down first under the Dark Angel television series trophe.
And the apocalypse that keeps them bleating about gold and silver won't stop the jack booted UN thugs with dronz from the gummint repossessing his house because all his money will be worthless!
This is the sad effect from a lack of basic practical knowledge of how the world works and listening to airheads like Palin and Beck:

Keep on buying that tin foil, Sparky, it'll keep them nuklear radio waves away from everything. Since Obama shut down the military, we ain't ready for no war with them there Reds!

I'll bet this idiot was a bundle of fun during the cold war.

I'm not an idiot, I was going to burn incense and chant also, I wasn't just depending on the aluminum foil.

(90,683 posts)He'd be better off with a cache of freeze-dried food. I have a couple of buckets full (they come packed in buckets) in case The Big One hits the San Andreas Fault and we survive but are on our own for a couple of weeks.
I didn't have to mortgage my house, either. Costco was carrying it rather affordably.

As to the Freeper, he's right about one thing. He's ready for whatever the North Koreans might throw at us.
Of course, so am I, without have lifted a finger toward that goal.

(26,602 posts)That this one is such an extreme exaggeration of RW nuttery that it looks just like RW nuttery.

(14,177 posts)It is a poster or a group of people sometimes they even do websites to parody a group of people by acting out all the stereotypes of the other group. There is a website forget the name, but they even have merchandise for their "university" the acronym for the university is FU.

Im kind of a prepping skeptic. If I go all out and prep magnificently, all it takes is one person besides me to know that I have, when the system crashes Ill have to be shooting people all day long, every day.
I think its more practical to buy things that will allow you to survive, hunting gear, etc. Some antibiotics, other medicines, flint, weapons, warm clothing, camping gear, one of those nice hand held water filters that can filter sewage , Iodine tablets, maybe a few packs of dehydrated water and some dehydrated food, perhaps a weeks worth. But why stock up on food/water? This makes you a HUGE target, and when the SHTF you need to be GONE , OUT, MOBILE.

(31,706 posts)Firstly, Lil Kim will be lucky if he can get a missile to come close to the International Dateline yet alone the West Coast of the U.S. All he'll get is one shot...maybe...the same if he launches conventional missiles against the South. The response will be quick and massive. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a submarine sitting right off the coast ready to degrade what little potency that pop-gun military has. So those "Red Dawners" out there will need to revise their fantasies a bit.
If there were this massive nuclear armageddon who'd want to be around afterwards? No electricity and very few functioning modern conveniences. Gonna "live off the land"...one that glows? Gonna live off years worth of MREs? And for what? To end up living in a cave ? The fantasy that a true full-scale nuclear attack from a competent adversary is survivable is pure folly. Of course if your head is not fully wound right and held together with tinfoil, it all seems to make sense.

what if the blast is a bit closer, and your house is scattered to the wind in a million tiny pieces?
I'm not really prepared enough to overcome that scenario yet. Suggestions?

(12,867 posts)... but power from the electrical utility than runs his freezers won't be interrupted?
That's an order of magnitude more stupid than the fool who wrapped his house with plastic sheeting & duct tape when Bush warned that Saddam would attack us with chemical weapons.
