Why is no one signing this petition?

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/save-social-security/s8BZbPj3

we petition the obama administration to:
Save Social Security.

Do not cut Social Security benefits by any means. Do not raise the eligibility age. Do not chain benefits payments to a lower, artificial cost-of-living index. Do not means-test Social Security; everyone who pays in should benefit, too.

Social Security is a separate fund and cutting payouts will not reduce the deficit. Take Social Security off the table for any budgetary, deficit-reduction or other fiscal considerations. We all hope to be senior citizens some day. Stand up for us now so we will always be secure.

Or maybe because people have signed so many petitions and have come to the conclusion that our leaders don't much care what we think?

Anyhow, it can't hurt to keep signing them, and calling and writing. At least to remind them of who they are supposed to be representing, and that while we don't get invited to any important meetings, we ARE still here.

...how many petitions should we sign to express our opinion on this subject? One? Twenty? How many??

Here's something else to think about:

The President can SAY anything he wants about ANY legislation, but he has ZERO power to actually create legislation.

Yes, the President has stated that he wants to present a compromise that includes cuts to earned benefits and increased taxes on the wealthy. There are two ways this suggested legislation is dead on arrival:

1. The Dems in the Senate will NOT agree to cuts in earned benefits;

2. The GOP Tea-Nazis in the House will NOT agree to increased taxes on the wealthy.

and they have the least spam of any or the petition sites. They only send a newsletter once a week and you can opt out. I have found other petition sites to be spam creators within political subject matter but not sales. Not so with WH in my experience.

Some of us here remember what happened to AARP when the brass sided with the bush administration to screw the old folks with the medicare bill. They got nasty letters and calls from all of us, and we all mailed back their membership solicitations with nasty notes about their stance on the medicare bill.

We really need to do something even more sweeping for this issue. We need to call every one of our representatives, state, local and federal, in the democratic party, and let them know that they will not now, and not ever, get one more red cent if they don't denounce the reduction in senior's social security benefits. We need to contact our party heads, county, city and state, and really bombard them with calls and letters. Our local democratic politicians....even the school board elected ones, need to be told we are not going to support them if the democratic party goes along with this "compromise". We have already OBVIOUSLY been COMPROMISED by our elected officials. We need to threaten EVERY elected democrat, so that they will put pressure on the State party chairmen, governors, senators, representatives, all the way up the chain.

We need the biggest push-back ever seen by contacting EVERY democrat in every office. We need to rattle every cage.

Why?

Because IF WE DON'T

The republican party is going to win every election for the next fifty years. If the social security safety net is fucked with during a democratic president's term WITH HIS BLESSING , we will never win another election. Obama isn't just screwing seniors....he is screwing EVERY DEMOCRAT elected to office, or hoping to ever get their office back. And it is up to every one of us to let every democrat in our county, state, city offices to know that if they don't PUT THIS TO BED ONCE AND FOR ALL, all of us who donate, work for or support democrats, KNOW we are being screwed and we won't play anymore, because there would be no use.

Republicans would love to see this happen to social security under a democratic administration. You can take that to the bank.

... people spend more time complaining on a blog then doing something. Call your congressmen. If they are a Dem let them know that if they vote to protect Social Security you will have their back.

2010 was a nightmare because the Dem base didn't turn out to vote. I don't think they take us seriously because they think we will abandoned them again no matter what.

Because some of us can't seem to establish a WH account. I used the password they gave me awhile back and was told that p'word was wrong. I sent an email asking for a reset. I copy and pasted the link into Google. Google couldn't find it.
I don't have time to play games with this. I'm getting in shape for the march.
