The chained CPI was big news and deserved time. It was one of the most important stories of the day. It pretty much got none on either show. They have valuable real estate. If the chained cpi isn't covered by them, it won't be covered at all.

(20,729 posts)actually, rachel etc. often somehow fail to cover important stories. usually those important stories are stories the establishment doesn't want covered, which shows you how much use rachel etc are.

Fridays are not good days for major stories, that is why politicians through out troublesome things on Friday, hoping they will get lost by Monday
This won't go away

AARP's media outlet is its magazine, which is for seniors. younger people don't read it.

(45,319 posts)AARP has 38 million members. To call those cable niche chatter shows 'tv shows' is technically true but in terms of audience size those cable niches have tiny viewership compared to actual TV news or even to reruns of Tyler Perry's House of Payne.

(20,729 posts)however watered down. it's one of the places left-leaning politically active people go and has a younger demographic than aarp.
yet maddow can't cover this issue.

(224 posts)He would not agree not to criticize Obama. Rachel covers a lot of women's issues and gay issues and is very good on that. She does not touch Obama's worst policies unless she is explaining them in the light of something bad a Republican did. She will cover the CPI scandal now that Boehner has turned down the budget out of hand. Chris Matthews meanwhile had on Gene Sperling, Obama's economic advisor, and both crowed over the bold move of inserting chained CPI and means testing of Medicare in the budget. So brave of Obama to go after the real problems, they asserted, while furthering the causes of jobs and strengthening the middle class.
Ed would have been outraged. One reason he was probably moved to No Man's Land.
I have signed many petitions, called my Congressman and the White House. If millions of us do the same MAYBE Obama will care.

What does he really care?
I used to like the guy, but watching him now is a complete waste of time.

(296 posts)Right now, as a progressive I feel sold out by so many people on the left who I had so much admiration and respect for because of this. In fact, even earlier today I found the HP seem to bury the story down their page a bit in favor of other important but less important stories. IMHO, it wasn't one of the most important stories, it was THE most important story--a Democratic president presents a budget that cuts SS and as an extra bonus, gives very limited in revenue, especially where the wealthy are concerned. I'm sure I could be more disheartened and disappointed politically...but I don't know how.

(53,774 posts). . . but, "New Flash", HP is no longer progressive. That changed with the big merger with AOL that allowed Arriana to rake in millions while many of the unpaid and barely paid toilers who helped build that site over the years did went uncompensated for their hard work.

(52,160 posts)on the plan b decision and Obama calling AG Harris the best looking AG? His internet video segment took us to the halfway point. Really? That is a good show on a day where it is announced SS cuts were proposed by a Democratic President. I will give Rachel credit for covering guns and state level GOP which are important things.

(1,989 posts)I don't watch Al EVER!
I've thought him camera hungry for years, basically willing to go anywhere, do anything, and say anything for a few seconds in front on any available camera. But, the final straw for me was Dunbar Village in Florida. He decided to ride in to save several young rapists who actually forced the nigerian womans son, I think an 11 year old, to have sex with his mother. Then they poured gasoline on the family and attempted to burn them alive. Just sitting here thinking about Mr. Al makes me want to throw up. At some point he realized he had chased one camera too many and slinked out of town. I remembered wondering if he had lost his mind at the time. The things these young men did to this young family is the stuff of your worst nightmares. But, there Al was, bright as day, talking points ready. Clueless.
Me personally, I have no problem if others watch him. In solidarity with that mother and son that Al stepped on to find a camera, I shall not. I find his presence on MSNBC one of their few stains, and proof there isn't much they won't do to pull in a few eyeballs.

I still watch occasionally, but I'd rather have Ed back

(52,160 posts)btw Rachel was right about the first debate, he was bad.
He only "lost" the first debate if lying a mile a minute and changing everything you said before in the campaign is what you call "winning" a debate. IMO Rachel and Tweety et al. were wrong to go there in concert with FOX and allow Romney's shenanigans to be declared a win.

(11,464 posts)There was no drop in the polls, unless you believe the fake rightwing ones that were reported the day before saying what happened the day after.
Electoral-Vote.com never had Mitt anywhere near the lead in the electoral college, and the popular vote don't matter.
President Obama won a landslide victory in 2012 and it happened the day of inauguration 2009.
There was never any doubt it would be a landslide, though the repubs thought so.
Same as HIllary is going to win over 450 electoral votes in 2016, and many more in 2020.
BTW, if everyone pays 5 bucks less for DEFGHIJ
then if they pay 2 bucks more for ABC
they are now 3 bucks ahead, not behind.

(84,711 posts)to bring in ratings for topic like Social Security. It's about "Demographics" (the 18-49 year old "consumers" that Corporations care about. Also, many of the younger Obama supporters are "Third Way" and SS and reforms to Medicare, Medicaid, Education are something they believe in. Not saying that's true of Rachel or Chris...but, that their audience is that demographic.
