Obama said during the first Presidential debate that his position on SS was similar to Romney's.

And I don't think anyone would be surprised by Romney proposing chained CPI, had he won the election.

So why the amazement and outrage?

He said in a debate with Hillary that he favored lifting the cap, which he never pursued, and ending Federal income taxation of senior citizens making 50K a year or less and he never mentioned that again. What's amazing is that of all the things he has said in debates and then dropped, he picks this as the one to follow through on.
