Hate Groups

In 2 relatively nearby MidWest towns even smaller than the one where I retired, someone's throwing rocks at a lot of houses, and those rocks carry hateful remarks made in the Klan's name. Probably fewer than 300 residents altogether. I hope it's just some yokel getting his kicks out of trying to scare people, but I point with pride to the recipients who are vociferously rejecting this shameful behavior regardless of the actual source. I so seldom feel that much impulse to praise things around here, diehard damnYankee that I am; but this evening I am indeed proud to see such blowback against the Klan.

It was appearing that to be a racist was almost acceptable. I say almost, among some sections of the American public. I firmly believe that those people need some group to stump on to make themselves feel tougher. Then they will do it to another group, then another and on and on. The klan and those that think like them should go back under the rock. Good for your town.

BTW I enjoyed reading your profile. I'm a 2nd generation Irish-American Catholic. All of my ancestors came from Ireland, 2 during the famine and 3 during the 1890's. I've become a student of Irish history. And Michael Collins is one of my heroes!!!

Unfortunately it was not 'my' town (most of whom would like to run me out on a rail) but rather a couple even tinier ones within spitting distance. We're cursed with a lot of so-called 'patriot' militia types. Still I hold out hopes that the others will gradually awaken. If they don't, it won't be for lack of my kicking their shins night and day. Good grief, half the time church is where I learn about the latest conspiracy theories! But I've resolved to take the high road, and on rare occasions manage a baby step in that direction.

And yes, I have to fight the urge to genuflect at the mere mention of Mick's name. God rest his soul. Will you be able to attend the Gathering this spring or summer? I forget which, because I don't have the money to go. But I'd love free stories from those who do.
