and he is the person with whom Obama must reach a budget deal.

Getting that deal is of immediate vital interest to Obama. In Obama's mind this isn't about sacrificing the New Deal, and Great Society programs, it's about making a grand bargain.

It's a matter of personal priorities.

*Why is it that the Democrats can NEVER slip something into spending bills like
Jobs Programs, or Public Options?

*Why is it that Democrats can NEVER hold the Republican hostage with something they want?

*Why is it that it ALWAYS seems to be a Kubiki Theater where the Democrats loose?

*Why is it that for the last 25 years every single time the Democrats wind up giving away the cow and getting a handful of Beans,
and then stand in front of the TV Cameras patting themselves on the back saying that,
"Hey. Its OK because these might be Magic beans"?

*Why is it that some supposed Democrats on a Liberal Discussion Board are trying to justify Cutting Social Security?
I would think that this is ONE Issue where we would have unanimous agreement:
Cutting Social Security is a BAD thing,
and NO amount of dancing,
or moving goal posts,
or rationalizations,
or excuses,
or Blue Links is going to make it OK.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their rhetoric, promises, or excuses.

They R's figured out over a decade ago, that when it comes to defending democratic principles the dems are their own worst enemy

"Ronald Reagan: Social Security has nothing to do with the deficit."

...he said it, and then he implemented a tax on Social Security benefits: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2618697

Not really hard to make that statement.

Dean Baker: FactCheck Gets It Wrong on Social Security and the Deficit

FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenburg Public Policy Center, wrongly attacked a number of prominent Democrats for correctly pointing out that Social Security does not contribute to the deficit. The people attacked, included New York Senator Charles Schumer, Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin, and President Obama’s Budget Director Jacob Lew, who had all correctly pointed out that Social Security does not contribute to the budget deficit.

It is just another battle lost by the people in the war being waged by the 1%. It's just that our general seems to be their general.

...they wouldn't have a collective hard-on for cutting SS, and would be praising Obamacare. This deal is a lot bigger than deficit-cutting, and it pains me to see the prez flip-flop again by conflating them.

But he's known for years that a pact with the devil is going to hurt people.

Just don't tax the rich. They're precious and create jobs and stuff.

And Trickle-Down works.
