US worried it may be ratcheting up pressure on North Korea

http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/04/politics/koreas-u-s-/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

Recent announcements of American military deployments in response to belligerent statements by North Korea may have contributed to escalating tensions between the two countries, Pentagon officials told CNN Thursday in explaining an effort to reduce U.S. rhetoric about the reclusive state.

"We accused the North Koreans of amping things up, now we are worried we did the same thing," one Defense Department official said.

YA THINK?

When dealing with a spoiled brat, sometimes the best option is to just let him talk himself out. NK has been issuing threats for a very long time. There's no indication they're actually going to do anything. All of this sabre-rattling by the US hasn't been helping things.

and letting everyone know about it is a safe, straightforward way (really, the only way) to let Kim and China know that we're taking his threats seriously and possibly deter a small attack--but also to test him and feel him out, since we aren't sure what he's doing or whether he's calling the shots. He threw a shitfit, and went straight for the nukes. Better to know now in a somewhat-controlled situation, than find out by surprise later, what he's up to and plans to do. Force him to show his hand, and pressure China a little to deal with him. Now everyone can hopefully "chill", and Kim can save face without launching anything.

talk himself out might work if the brat doesn't have a really big gun.

This North Korean nutcase is not to be trusted and the rest of the world needs to prepare its defenses to whatever he has the capability to inflict on us.
