GMO Free USA Rallies Against Kellogg’s on Earth Day
April 4th, 2013

Washington DC, April 04, 2013 – GMO Free USA, a national consumer advocacy group, will take their fight to The Kellogg Company’s doorsteps on Earth Day. After nine months of actions targeting Kellogg’s, GMO Free USA will stage rallies across the USA to raise awareness of Kellogg’s use of genetically modified ingredients.

“They tell us they avoid GMOs. They tell us they don’t know if their products contain GMOs. They tell us that GMOs are safe to eat. It seems they change their story to suit whatever they think will satisfy the caller,” Diana Reeves, founder of GMO Free USA, says of Kellogg’s Consumer Affairs. Since July of 2012, GMO Free USA has been hammering Kellogg’s on a multi-front campaign of emails, phone calls, and Facebook postings to pressure the company to remove GMOs from their products. During Earth Day weekend activists will stage rallies in cities across the nation, leading to an April 22 Earth Day rally in Battle Creek, Michigan, where they will deliver thousands of petition signatures to Kellogg’s headquarters asking them to remove GMOs from their products.

On the heels of reports such as “GMO Myths and Truths” (Antoniou, Robinson, & Fagan) and Dr. Charles Benbrook’s study “Impacts of Genetically Engineered Crops on Pesticide Use in the U.S.,” citizens across the nation are becoming aware of the potential health hazards and severe environmental damage caused by GMOs and the toxic pesticides used to support their growth. An increasing number of consumers want GMOs out of the food system.

In January, GMO Free USA launched their Kellogg’s Boycott “Connect the Dots” online campaign, a series of weekly posters designed to educate people about GMO related health risks such as allergies, pediatric cancers, obesity, infertility and birth defects. GMO Free USA’s leadership say they concentrated efforts on Kellogg’s because the company’s advertising heavily targets children and because of the large amount of money Kellogg’s threw behind the deceptive “No on 37” campaign that defeated Proposition 37, a 2012 California voter ballot initiative that would have mandated the labeling of genetically engineered foods. “Kellogg’s does not use GMOs in their products in Europe and countries that require GMO labeling. That’s a slap in the face of all Americans. We will continue to grow our boycott of Kellogg’s until they remove GMOs, for as long as it takes,” says Reeves.

GMO Free USA is a national group harnessing education, advocacy, and bold action to foster consumer rejection of genetically modified organisms. For more information visit www.GMOFreeUSA.org

it will have an effect. I'm not sure this rally will, though.
