Licensed gun owner says he killed 1-year-old Chihuahua for threatening him

14-year-old Detroit girl says that a neighbor shot and killed JoJo, her 1-year-old Chihuahua, because he wasn’t on a leash and was making too much noise.

The licensed gun owner, however, told police that he gunned down the tiny dog because it was threatening him.

The girl, who WJBK declined to identify, said that she had gone inside for a few minutes while JoJo ran free in the yard. When she came back outside, the neighbor warned her to take the dog back in the house.

“When he saw my dog running out of the bushes, [he said], ‘I’m going to handle him myself,’ and then I guess my dog had run back up on him again, and he just shot him,” the teen recalled as she cradled the dead dog in a blanket.

“His life couldn’t have felt threatened at all by this little Chihuahua,” she explained.

Detroit Police determined that the neighbor was a licensed gun owner.

“This is a harsh reminder of responsibility,” Detroit Dog Rescue’s Dante Dasaro told WJBK. “If the dog was just simply on a leash and simply was on a leash to go outside, you know, the owner would have better control. No matter how this played out it was an unfortunately situation, and it really shouldn’t have happened.”

Grown Chihuahuas typically weigh between 2 and 6 pounds.

and I consider them annoying yapping dogs. But they're so tiny, one would hardly be a serious threat to a hamster.

Licensed gun owner just likes to kill things, if you ask me.

added on edit: Oh, and once again remind me about all those responsible gun owners out there.

I am not overly fond of the breed either but this guy should lose his License and spend some time behind bars cooling his heels. Anger management therapy might also be a good way to spend his time while behind said bars.

...just looking at the picture, quite frankly I'd feel unsafe too.

I'm concerned about all the people in Connecticut who live next to these vicious wild animals. They're now limited to 10 rounds for protection. Thank god that in Ohio I can still pack my 30-round mag. When my neighbor's Chihuahua comes running around the side of my house - well, I'll have no fear. I'll be able to fend off one of these little guys with up to the equivalent of 10% of his body weight in semi-auto burst protection. Yep - I'm da man.

(just in case it's necessary).

WTF are people thinking. Just WTF???

The gun gives them a sense of power but the power isn't gratifying until they exercise it.

Once upon a time I was attacked by a shrew. The nasty little bastard was scampering across my sleeping bag and woke me up. When I reflexively tried to brush it away it bit me and kept coming back for more!

But I didn't shoot it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ornate_Shrew

So there I was, dancing around in the moonlight in my underwear trying to escape it's fearsome jaws. Just look at that little fucker in this picture trying to chew off a guy's wedding ring. Someone could lose some finger flesh!

Okay. I'm glad nobody saw me, or maybe if they did they kept it to themselves. (Sally and I have many secrets.)

Sadly, too many people with guns are just itching to shoot. It never turns out well. Especially for the idiot with the gun.

He's simply a sick human being and belongs in jail for a long, long time. Next time he might kill a bratty child who's annoying him. We don't need this type of NRA members in our society.

I cry for that poor little doggie and his 13 year old owner who had to witness this horror. She won't be able to forget that for the rest of her life. Bless her!

There's not enough room.

Obviously he has anger issues. Alcohol reduces inhibitions, it doesn't "give him courage". I'd bet you he's a drunk.

and this guy probably did need a gun to be an even match to a chihuahua
