The power of the NRA is, as said, truly amazing.
Look at the recent record:
20 dear little children and 6 adults involved in their lives were gunned down by a loser with legal assault weapons after he killed his own heavily armed mother.
The world is outraged. The country is shocked. The gun debate starts anew.
The head of the NRA makes a public statement that seems to galvanize opposition against him and all he stands for.
Senators chatter.
Representatives represent.
Debate.
Bills.
Support.
Oppose.
Oppose.

Water down.
And down.
And now we get . . . . . essentially nothing.

It means that what they are essentially saying is "my gun is more important than kids' lives." The burden is on THEM to think hard and come up with some ideas to solve this problem. OR to admit that they won't even try because nothing can be done and therefore we just throw up our hands and say "c'est la vie..."
