An observation about our two US Senators from Ohio

I was fortunate to enjoy today's Opening Day (Reds 1, LA Angels in 13). Before the game, they introduced Brown and Portman as guests out on the field. An important point - they were announced together. Both standing there and the announcer said "welcome our Senators Brown and Portman".

Immediately, the crowd broke out into loud booing.

I thought it was really interesting that there was more interest in booing "the other guy" than in cheering your own guy. Presumably there were both Brown voters and Portman voters in the crowd of 45k. Hamilton county is republican but Cincinnati often skew democratic. Portman carried the county and Brown carried the city. It would have been just as easy for there to be a collective cheer, each voter for their own guy but it didn't go that way.

That's the state of our collective relationship with Congress and, imho, a little of what's wrong in the country these days.
