In a stunning April 1st press conference, President Obama said he regrets the direction his administration has taken since he was elected. "The American people put me in office to represent and protect the middle class, not the interests of banks and corporations. When I see the suffering 8 years of Republican scorched earth policy have caused to so many hard working people and their families, I am ashamed".
Vowing to purge his administration of Wall Street lobbyists and corporate revolving door flunkies, he said "It is time to start taking the promises we made during the campaign seriously".
Perhaps the Easter holiday may have had some bearing on this apparent change of heart. "When I saw Pope Francis flaunting in the face of Santorum Catholics by washing the feet of poor women prisoners, it finally hit me. These are the people I was sworn in to represent, not some 1% crooks. It was a scene that burned into my mind. Then it hit me - I'm the President! I could wash feet all day, or serve food at a soup kitchen, and there wouldn't be a damn thing anybody could do about it! Or maybe declare homelessness and unemployment a national emergency, and start infrastructure job programs, hell, maybe even authorize federal funds to build affordable, safe housing for those most in need! What's the Pope got that I don't?"
