Entergy's nuke plant in Russelville, Ar has shut down both reactors following what they are calling a "major industrial accident". A generator stator fell while being moved. One worker was killed, three injured. Reactors are said to be in a stable shutdown condition and there is no danger. Area residents reported hearing very loud bangs or explosions. No other details yet.

(8,359 posts)I was on the freeway passing the oil spill in Mayflower that happened Friday when tweets from local reporters started mentioning the explosion reports. I drove past the reactor and noted there was no steam coming from the cooling towers. I found out the rest via statement from Entergy on Twitter. Im on my phone and dont have computer access at the moment. Ill get more info as i can find it.

(16,201 posts)That plant produces one third of the state's power normally. It's tragic that someone was killed given the rigorous safety requirements in place today.
