Authorities say a second person is dead after a highway crash near Sacramento caused by a big rig driver who choked on food and lost consciousness.
Deputy Tenzin Dorji of the Solano County Coroner's Office says the driver and a passenger in a BMW hit by the tractor-trailer both died.
Three others were injured.
The California Highway Patrol says the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 80 near Davis, about 15 miles west of Sacramento.
CHP says the big rig driver was in the eastbound lanes when he lost consciousness, drifted onto the right shoulder and then veered to the left, across the highway and over the center divider.
