When Roberts (I think it was him) got into the why aren't civil unions enough thing yesterday, about how "you just want the word," I was struck by how often this form of argument comes up, and how easily it can be dismissed.
If what I want is so utterly trivial, why are you digging in your heels to deny it?
That response would be more politic than what I might have said if someone was crazy enough to let me argue with the Supreme Court... my first thought was: "I thought this court had settled 'separate but equal' in the 1950s. If you want me to re-litigate it, however, I can read Brown vs. Board of Education into the record."
