Self-harm pupil given razor at Unsted Park School

Self-harm pupil given razor at Unsted Park School

A self-harming pupil was given a disposable safety razor to slash themself with at a school while being supervised by a teacher.

The incident happened at Unsted Park School in Godalming, Surrey.

The school provides specialist education for seven to 19-year-olds with Asperger's, higher functioning autism and associated disorders.

....

The pupil did not need hospital treatment.

Self-harm happens when a person injures or harms themself on purpose. Such action may be a sign that something is seriously wrong.

A spokeswoman from the Priory Group, which runs the school, confirmed that the incident had taken place. No details about the nature or extent of the pupil's injuries were given.

and no where near children.

Reading the article is just chilling.

Looked up the "Priory Group" - As the UK's leading independent provider of forensic mental healthcare services, the Priory delivers clinically effective evidence based treatment programmes.

Why are they not looking at the US and realizing that privatization is the ruination of any decency and compassion in care?

if I do a google news search I use the word 'school' without a qualifier.

If there are a ton out there then I am sure, since DU has other posters, that it is covered and people see them.

I went to public school. My 3 sons did. One of my daughters is in public school, and one is in a charter (though she did go to a public school for a year in CA and her grandmother was superintendent of those schools).

Not about which school type it is - it is about schools being idiots and people in power abusing it.

Kind of like how Jewish synagogues have issues with abuse as do catholic ones but the catholic ones get more press so there are more stories to pull from.

I prefer to discuss the issues around schools in general and don't care which they are.
