(2 posts)Dunno bout that. Stood on a street corner in Manila in the mid '70s. Watched a Philippine Constable shoot a knife wielding man 6 times almost point blank. His weapon empty, he threw it at the guy who chased him down and stabbed him to death.
Lots of people get killed by bladed weapons.

(39,171 posts)Handguns are the killers. Yet no one seems to be talking about them - this fixation on certain type of rifles doesn't address 99% of the gun deaths in America.

(18,115 posts)Those shock the collective conscious. Once we address that, we can move on to the handguns. But, I agree, we should be addressing all at once.

(18,115 posts)Many need to be banned.
hack89
(39,171 posts)that's what I find so puzzling. If the present number of assault weapons presents a danger to society, why did Feinstein not propose that owning them should be illegal? If the number of assault weapons remains constant, doesn't that meant that the number of mass shootings should also remain constant?
morningfog
(18,115 posts)that since mass killings haven't been "constant" nothing should be done.

(39,171 posts)it is just that the AWB as presently written will not make a difference.
Universal background checks, limits on magazine sizes, healthcare reform, crackdowns on illegal gun sales. All good things that should be implemented.

(11,464 posts)Sometimes I think some of the Pro-Gun,Pro-NRA private citizens want to walk around with
shoulder to air missiles and say the 2nd allows them too.
The beauty will be when they do what is needed to be done to end the insanity of bullets in the streets.
The tears/sadness will be that thousands more will die while those cling to their guns and the NRA mouth pieces and million dollar suits keep the problem (like their blackmailing and almost hostage taking of the politicians doing so) going for who knows how many election cycles til they are broken.
And there is a dirty little secret that I think the Pro-gun people are not aware of, but that is for another day, another different thread.Coming soon to America.
