Republicans Love Poor People Now

In describing the new strategy to start talking to poor Americans, the aforementioned strategy document says (emphasis mine):

The Republican Party must be the champion of those who seek to climb the economic ladder of life. Low-income Americans are hard-working people who want to become hard-working middle-income Americans. Middle-income Americans want to become upper-middle-income, and so on. We need to help everyone make it in America.

Echoing that message, former Sen. Jim DeMint wrote in a Washington Times Op-Ed Friday, “We must take our message of freedom and opportunity for all and connect with every neighborhood in America.” And former Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson used his perch at the Washington Post on the same day to press for Republican plans for “child poverty.”

That talk of low-income Americans being hardworking represents more than a small departure from what we heard in the 2012 campaign. Why the change? A new bout of empathy? Again, that strategy document:

1. People know they are loved dearly by the Republican Party...

They would not have to be on food stamps or Social Security or Medicare or SSI or any government assistance if it were not for the Democratic Party. The American people are not stupid. They understand that the Republican way of opportunity and freedom and all those other pretty words will help them climb that Big Rock Candy Mountain...

5. I love that Republicans think they just need to get their message out.

They think they can just keep getting uglier and dumber and no one will notice. They will do such a good job talking and presenting an image of themselves that people won't see who they really are. They have yet to do step one of their twelve step program. They are still on a bender of meanness and ignorance, and they think they are fine...just misunderstood.

And just to make the poor extra special in their eyes they want to make them even more poor. And just to make sure they stay poor they want to make policies that do just that.
