Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain said it did not appear to be a natural death and authorities were investigating. Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor also would not comment on the cause of death.

Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis told The Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/X1xwqe) she was found at the home of former state Rep. Clint Rotenberry. He has not been arrested.

The sheriff did not return a phone call from The Associated Press, and Rotenberry did not answer his phone.

"We are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Rep. Jessica Upshaw. This is a tragic loss for both our Republican family and the state of Mississippi. We are grateful for her many years of public service, and we pray for her and her family," said Joe Nosef, chairman of the state Republican Party.

Upshaw was the fifth member of the House to die in as many months. The other four all died of natural causes.

I can understand just being vague until the "official" story is worked-out, but seriously the MBI spokesperson said this?

Obviously there are only two possibilities, either she committed suicide or she was murdered. If she killed herself, why do it at someone else's home?

Either way, my condolences to her family.

Rest in peace.
