Tough Sheriff wants 5 jailers fired for giving candy to murder suspect

In the continuing saga of Milwaukee's tough guy authoritarian sherriff yet another over-reaction.

These jailers may have broken rules, but does candy to a prisoner on suicide watch really require 5 people to lose their jobs?

------------------------

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. wants five corrections officers, including a lieutenant, fired. According to a correction officer union, the officers are accused of passing canteen items from inmates to Ben Sebena, who is charged with first-degree intentional homicide.

Sebena is accused of gunning down his wife, Wauwatosa police Officer Jennifer Sebena while she was on duty Christmas Eve. Sebena is also subject to certain restrictions because he's on suicide watch, officials said.

Officials said Sebena was able to access treats, such as candy from the commissary, which is in violation of his custody order. 12 News has obtained documents that show a lieutenant and four correction officers violated several sheriff's office rules, including insubordination, fraternization and violation of policy regarding a special needs inmate directive that was put in place in December.

In addition, one officer is accused of violating a truthfulness policy, while the lieutenant is accused of violating a truthfulness policy and neglect of duty.

His fighting with the Co. Exec, seems to have aroused Clarke to the point of nearing dysfunction.

Last month Clarke produced an advertisement played during hours of a conservative talk radio show telling people that Milw law enforcement couldn't protect them and that they should buy firearms for that purpose.

Earlier this month, he refused to allow a newly appointed jail administrator into the facility he was hired to run.
