LBN story: Solidarity Spurs Reinstatement of Brooklyn Cablevision Workers: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014429976

From email.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic members of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce will hold a forum in Brooklyn, NY on problems in negotiating first contracts after workers organize a union. The forum will focus on the Cablevision dispute as a case study.

Workers at Cablevision in Brooklyn voted to form a union with the Communications Workers of America in January 2012, but the parties have not settled a first contract more than a year later. Most recently, in January 2013, 22 Cablevision workers sought a meeting with management to discuss lack of progress in the contract negotiations. While still waiting for the meeting, according to press reports, the workers were told by management they had been “permanently replaced.” Public outcry about the firings followed, and Cablevision is now reportedly rehiring the 22 workers.
