Here's how I decided to donate to Planned Parenthood...

I had my annual mammogram today. Everything is good. My test was ordered by my Internist. I have not had a pap smear for 12 years, for a number of reasons, having moved twice, returning to my hometown and my gynecologist in my hometown had quit practicing medicine and just could never find a decent referral.

Today, I decided to utilize my local Planned Parenthood for my what will now be an annual pap smear. I am fully insured, with a small copay for specialists. However my insurance pays for this appointment with no cost to me. My insurance covers care I will receive at PP.

So any fellow women DU'ers out there, if you don't have a Doctor, you're uncomfortable with your Doctor, move your care over to Planned Parenthood. If you have insurance, great, if not PP offers sliding scale fees, etc. Let's let Susan G. begin to see what PP does for women in America.

I will do also..

but I never gave to the Komen foundation... I didn't like it when they started doing the Yoplait lid fundraiser.. sort of may be sick.

Yoplait uses high fructose corn syrup.. which is bad for the pancreas.. so if the cancer doesn't get you try diabetes or heart disease.

There are other organizations to donate to that help end Cancer.. and Planned Parenthood seems like a good one to me.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Good move and great advice.

If I may suggest another way we can all support PP --

Sign up with GoodSearch as your primary search engine, select the national or one of the local PP organizations, and earn a donation for PP from the site's sponsors with every search.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]If you set GoodSearch as your search default, you'll never forget again.

Those pennies per search can add up to something really substantial if enough people do it.

And, DU is considering doing the Valentine Hearts to raise funds for Planned Parenthood (if you weren't aware).

DU can get what would have been my copay for a specialist and forward that to PP.

This is not enough to cover the expenses of even one patient, but it helps.

When my daughter went there for her birth control, she always paid them what she could. Now she supports them at a higher level.

If their PP action fund asks for occasional donations to fight some new, outrageous challenge in court, I try to find a bit of money for that, too. I can't always do it, but I try, if the bills are not too demanding at the time they ask.

Everyone here: Please find a few dollars for Planned Parenthood. Make the statement of support, even if it is only a small donation.

in my post, I have insurance that will pay for the exam. I will not have a copay to PP for the exam, hence my copay will be donated. I'm also not working.
