If you carry a blood donor card

I used to be a blood donor in the 90s until a transitory anemia (that was reversed with iron supplements), and then I stopped.

Recently I went through some old papers and found that old card. Not only did it have my name and blood type, it had my birth date and social security number...

The card, on its way to the waste basket went into the shredder, instead.

I hope that this practice stopped.

That is one reason I will never forget my SSN. But it wasn't a big deal back then, but it is now.

"Why does my social security number have number signs in it?"

It was on a piece of official mail. Teach your kids about identity theft.

They wrote his number with number signs substituted for the actual numbers, and he thought those number signs were part of his SSN.

It was funny.

How was identity theft not a huge problem in the old days?
