Steubenville's Jane Doe asks us to please support the Madden House, devoted to treating abused

Last edited Wed Mar 20, 2013, 09:47 AM - Edit history (4)

...and sexually assaulted women as part of the YWCA in Wheeling, West Virginia.

I wrote her lawyer, Bob Fitzsimmons, asking if there was a fund being set up or if he could help me contact the family to set up internet fundraising for her. Because a lot of us are concerned about her security and her future living in that area.

He responded saying that Ms Doe and her family would like all donations to go to Madden House- devoted to treating abused and sexually assaulted women in her area. Sounds good to me.

They have an easy to click and pay link here, and you can find more info about their services and programs there too.

(Edited to add another (non demonimational) group the Does would like to see supported below. )

YWCA
Madden House
11th and Chapline Streets
Wheeling, West Virginia
26003

(edit to add later message from lawyer Bob, another way to help!)
A second organization that also deals with this type of work was also included by the family & it is

The Sexual Assault Help Center
* corrected mailing address*
112 Braddock Street, Fairmont, WV
26554.

" Checks can be made out to WVFRIS.
All donations are greatly
appreciated and even more so as we just had our funding zeroed out of the
Govenor's budget - which is not reinstated by the legislature on some level
will be a reduction of $250,000 for rape crisis services in the state."

And Bob has passed our well wishes, vibes of strength and solidarity to Ms Doe and family.

Please copy/ share this info anywhere you think it might help!
I'm asking you to kick and rec this thing too.
TIA, DU!

I still worry that at this time it is Jane Doe and her family who might really need donations for their safety and security. I hope they can afford whatever is needed to promote healing and growth, and moving forward.

Too bad our governments don't think such things are important enough to fund adquately.

for reaching out and doing this. Donation and note left.

Also, if people are interested in helping out in their communities, YWCA is a great org to help out at and donate to in your local area. Ours here is great and lots of women are getting the help they need. Please don't forget them if you have spare time or money.

Again, thanks, bettyellen!

After fondue, I'm always in a "cheese coma." I've never known of anyone to attempt, much less survive, a hike after fondue.

I have been wondering how we can help her, what we can do - more than anything let her know that the assholes who are threatening her are NOT the majority.
