Anderson Cooper on the Steubenville Rape Case

He just spent the first 15 minutes of his show defending the rape victim and appropriately pointing out the guilt of the perpetrators. Guess he's trying to make up for the awful reporting of Candy Crowley and Poppy Harlow yesterday.

Glad to see Anderson do this as I usually view him as a good reporter on human affairs and social issues, but I still think Crowley and Harlow have some apologizing to do.

for these guys now that CNN has told us it will haunt them for the rest of their lives? What they did should have haunted them for the rest of their lives but would have probably been forgotten. Now it never will be (forgotten).

Calling CNNs coverage yesterday awful doesn't come close (not criticizing the OP at all just adding my disgust) ... what CNN did was unconscionable.

Whatever Cooper's motivation (his motivation may simply be it was the right thing to do) ... I am glad he has spoken out!

I just watched video of it, available here http://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2013/03/18/ac360-new-statement-from-steubenville-rape-victims-mom-given-to-poppy-harlow/

Damn. Anderson looked like he was about to cry in some parts. Unlike those scumbags Poppy Harlow "Sloppy Harlowbrow" and Candy Crowley "Creepy Crawley". Harlow rejoined AC360 to relay a statement from the victim's mother:

“My family and I are hopeful that we can put this whole ordeal behind us. We need and deserve to focus on our daughters future. We hope that from this something good can arise. I feel I have an opportunity to bring an awareness to others, possibly change the mentality of a youth or help a parent to have more of an awareness to where their children are and what they are doing. The adults need to take responsibility and guide these children. I ask every person listening: what if this was your daughter, your sister or your friend? We need to stress the importance of helping those in need and to stand up for what is right. We all have that option to choose. This is the start of a new beginning for my daughter. I ask that you all continue to pray for her and all victims and please respect our privacy as we help our family to heal. Thank you.”

IMO even though Anderson Cooper is very good most of the time, Christiane Amanpour is excellent all of the time.

I've always thought quite a bit of him. He is by far the best on CNN and I was waiting to hear what he would have to say today. Last week he covered the trial and did not once even try to take up for the rapist.

He's still up there in my book.

I like him so much. Not that he's perfect (not that I have any specific examples, but... who's perfect?) but he really does seem to be concerned about injustice and suffering. And at the same time, he has a sense of humor when it's appropriate. I think he's great. If he and Wolf Blitzer switched places so that he was the face of the network I would spend a LOT more time with CNN. He's just so darn appealing in a way that nobody else on CNN is.

Maybe CNN plays all emotion sides of any story just to get ratings???

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda

---Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed towards influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument. Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media in order to create the chosen result in audience attitudes.

As opposed to impartially providing information, propaganda, in its most basic sense, presents information primarily to influence an audience. Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or uses loaded messages to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the attitude toward the subject in the target audience to further a political, religious or commercial agenda. Propaganda can be used as a form of ideological or commercial warfare.---
