Some Pro-life zealots even illegally used Matuschka's image as part of their campaign to misinform the public with signs stating that abortions cause breast cancer. Sometimes that photo would be blown up as much as 10 feet high.

Matuschka was also vilified by those seeking political advantage. Some of those well-connected politicos involved in the vilification of Matuschka would see the opportunity to promote Komen and its pink ribbon cutesiness to co-opt the movement from longtime breast cancer awareness activists. It was always just a matter of time till people would begin to see their RW agenda.

Real advocates for breast cancer awareness and research have urged us to THINK BEFORE YOU PINK.

2. There's a RW mindset of those behind Komen who use it for personal power, enrichment, and politics.

Nancy Brinker may as well call herself Nancy Bush.

Fortunately, the NYT and LIFE magazine will occasionally do retrospectives of important, life-changing photos so Matuschka will still get legitimate recognition for going 'there' bravely and publicly.
