(56,828 posts)who had paid for his daughter to have an abortion? And, when called on it, the pol said it was the law of the land, so it was okay for him to do it at the time.

(3,784 posts)I'm convinced that in order to be a Republican, you have to have a complete inability to put yourself in the shoes of someone else. I've found this to be true an overwhelming amount of the time: Republicans simply can't fathom living in a way unlike the way they live(d). In their world, EVERYONE is able-bodied, able-minded, and has the financial wherewithal to do whatever they want because THEY did. Just think of how they defend their policies. Everyone who wants a job can find one. Really? Anyone who wants an education can get one. You sure about that? With hard work, anyone can do anything. Yeah, right.
How many times do we have to hear, "I actively opposed gun legislation until my child shot himself; now I see the light," or, "I thought reforming the healthcare industry was a bad idea until my wife got sick and we almost lost our house paying the medical bills," or, "I was against abortion until my underage mistress got pregnant," etc.?
Unfortunately, the change is just entirely too slow this way. Why do they continually insist the stove ISN'T hot until they actually burn their hands personally, or see that someone they love has been burned?
