Houston PD Tickets A Homeless Vet For ‘Molesting’ A Garbage Can For Food

Now that the crime rate has declined in Houston, the cops there apparently don’t have enough to do.

In fact, it’s quiet enough in that dusty Texas town that their big bust last week was nailing a guy for a crime so heinous the statute against it has been on the books since 1942:

You CANNOT “molest a garbage can” in Houston, Texas.

That’s right. Scavenge through a big bin and you’re going down, brother. Well, you’re at least going to get a ticket. And last Thursday night that’s exactly what happened to James Kelly. The hungry, homeless Navy vet was ticketed by Houston PD for wanton disregard of the garbage molesting law after he was found rummaging through a trash bin in search of food, rumored to be a donut.

Dear God, mother, dial 911 and hide the kids in the bathroom!

... they don't want you to have a job, but they will arrest you for going through the garbage. Sounds about right.

Hell, in some places they put friggin' locks on the Dumpsters.

and ask himself what he would do if he was hungry and homeless?

Where has humanity gone?

Let's facilitate the secession of Texas now - we can partition a little for those Texans who are Dems and don't want to move to another state, but the rest they should go and rot.

Houston is on a swamp. I lived there 30 years ago and it is muggy, sweaty, wet and awful. Dusty? Dusty would have been nice compared to the sticky grossness that is Houston.
Just sayin'.
And "molesting a garbage can" is not a part of a statute as far as I can find. the original Houston Chronicle article from which the author cribbed the alternet crap piece mentions nothing about molesting a garbage can.
That all being said, it is simply awful the police arrested the guy for dumpster diving for food. The thing that bothers me is what passes for journalism in the minds of people on both sides of the political spectrum.

I used to molest the dumpsters behind the florist for the flowers they threw out that were perfectly fine, I was only 20 at the time but they we perfectly good flowers and I was rescuing them IMO.
