My son-in-law's dad just responded on my FB, "She is a prototypical ass hat" in response to the pic below I posted. He is a Tea Party far rightwinger.
I replied with, "ad hominem...LOL"
Since he works for the nuclear power industry should I also post up..."cut government spending on insuring and funding nuclear power"?
LOL...RWNTs are strange creatures...especially those working for six figures on government contracts.

(5,167 posts)I find it better to not post my political views on Facebook.
It's not a two-way street in that regard, but I just routinely
"hide" the offensive RW posts, and, believe me, there are a lot of them/

My brother posted on FB how much he enjoyed living on another continent. I said I enjoyed living on another continent as well (not his), and all hell broke loose on the relative front--they have rarely ever been out of their own county and considered us unpatriotic. I have nothing to talk about to these people since we have virtually nothing in common other than DNA, and since my parental connection to them has passed on, I decided it was a good time to let the extended rellies pass from my Facebook account. If they want to get in touch w/me, they have my snailmail account.

(5,167 posts)I have become the (extended) family matriarch.
I am protective of family ties and want to pass on family heritage to those who will never know it without my input.
So, yes, their political stance was imbued by the other side of their parentage, but I'm not giving up on them as people.
I not going to convert them to my way of political thinking and they're not going to convert me to theirs.
It's a stalemate, and I can accept that.

When extended family members from "Pleasantville" consider me the evil incarnate because I prefer to live in another country, it doesn't make my angry, but it does make me sad. Further, we lack any basis for further communication, DNA or no DNA.
