that he will still be getting 4 hours of broadcast time rather than 5 and, as far as anyone knows, continues to get complete editorial control.

Now his yearly income may be reduced somewhat (currently estimated at $ 10 million) but with an estimated net worth of $ 50 million I think he will do OK, I just have a hard time seeing him as a victim of a vicious coup.

It may even be that they have incentivized his new time shot and he could get more money if he significantly increases viewership.

I wish someone would push me out like that.

Personally, I think the bigwigs at MSNBC simply decided they could get better ratings with someone else, so they exiled Big Ed to the weekends.

On the bright side, I hope this means MSNBC's going to devote some resources to putting real news and commentary on the weekends instead of those damned prison shows.

Rachel is very ethical-minded and seems to me to work well with everyone.
Even those who do not agree with her all the time.

If that was the plot.

Chris Hayes is such a higher draw than Ed?? Hardly. I watch his weekend morning shows faithfully and think Up with Chris Hayes is one of the most intelligent shows ever put on tv. He will not have that at 8pm. It's a huge loss for us policy junkies. For him, this is a big career move.

If they really wanted to "boost" ratings, and they picked Chris - I would laugh at that. And I love the guy.

As another poster pointed out, Ed gets 4 hours each weekend. In 2 hours on each day, he can do stuff he can't do at 8pm. Think Charles Kuralt, think Cronkite, think of old time reporting that many of us grew up with, along with the personal stories.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that Ed and MSNBC are looking for a game changer with this format.

A 2 hour slot allows for MUCH broader stories. Interviews can be twice as long. Better format for location shoots, like his times in Ohio and elsewhere.

He's going from 5 hours a week at prime time to 4 hours a week on weekends and many on DU are making it sound as if he is being put out to pasture.

I look forward to his new shows.

16. I watched a lot of MSNBC tonight and was surprised at the lack of sponsers.

Especially during the Last Word w Lawrence O., there were no paid sponsors, all the commercial breaks were MSNBC ads touting MSNBC. Another thing that disconcerts me is that the sponsors for TRMS are big oil & coal, you know the "clean energy and jobs" ads. I would think MSNBC would be more selective. I'm sticking with big Ed on the weekends too.
