To my mind Dems shouldn't be happy that this is part of the norm for US politics 2013.

What people like Trump show is that an ability to make $$ in the microscopic environment of individuals working in a capitalist environment doesn't equate to an ability to understand the macroscopic environment where states deal with states.

IMO the fact that this guy is given the floor at a CPAC convention is alarming not just for Reps, but also Dems, in that it demonstrates a total obliviousness to the actual world economy. What I mean is that people like Trump don't give the Dems a backboard against which to refine their shots in an exponentially changing world market. This allows the Dems way too much slack and allows Dems to be unrealistic as well, and because I want the US to prosper and all I (not a US citizen) want to say is "heads up!", besting that kind of opposition, or the opposition of the Reps who had the floor in the recent primaries, is not enough. It isn't nearly enough.
